Welcome to Northwest Inara Siberian Cats!
We are a TICA-registered, family-run cattery, based out of the Northwest (Oregon). We raise our Siberian kittens as part of our family, ensuring they are friendly and well-socialized when they go to their new homes.
At Northwest Inara Siberian Cats, our journey began with a predicament: my husband and children wanted a cat and I am allergic (I mean full blown swollen itchy eyes, the works!). Determined to find a solution that would allow us to experience the joy of owning a feline companion, we stumbled upon the Siberian breed. Known for their low allergen properties, Siberians seemed to be the perfect fit for our family. As we spent more time with the breed, their endearing personalities and stunning appearances stole our hearts.
We then embarked on a new venture: establishing a small family cattery with the aim of sharing this special breed with other families grappling with allergies. Our sincere desire is to provide an opportunity for others to enjoy the charm and companionship that Siberian cats bring. Northwest Inara Siberian Cats is here to make your dreams of owning a cat come true, even with allergies in the picture.
Because we are a small cattery, our kittens are able to be hand-raised in the house with us. This makes them well suited for family life - my kids make sure that they are well socialized and ready to live around other children. Being indoors helps them become familiar with the sights and sounds they will experience in their new home.
In addition to living inside, all the cats have access to a screened-in catio. This enclosure allows them to enjoy the fresh air and observe the outside world, while minimizing the risk of getting bugs or other outdoor hazards. Our stud cat even has his very own bachelor pad, affectionately called "The Kitty Cabana." The Kitty Cabana offers him an opportunity to play freely and get one-on-one attention from us. He enjoys his own personal catio and going on walks; bird watching is one of his favorite things.
About Siberian Cats
Siberian cats make wonderful pets, but what makes them so special? Here is what you need to know about the Siberian breed.
Siberians Are Known For Being Low-Allergen
Siberians are famous for being low-allergen cats, which means many people with allergies can own them. When people have an allergic reaction to cats, they are most often reacting to a protein in the cat’s saliva named Fel-D1. When cats groom themselves, the protein dries on their fur, causing allergies for those who pet them. Siberian cats produce lower levels of the Fel-D1 protein than other cat breeds. The levels can vary but overall, most people with allergies do very well with Siberian cats.
Siberians Come From The Forests Of Siberia Russia
Siberian cats originate from the Taiga of Siberia, Russia, where they have thrived for over 1,000 years. Thanks to their long history in the harsh Siberian climate, Siberian cats have developed remarkable adaptations that make them well-suited for colder environments. Their thick triple coats, muscular build, and tufted paws allow them to navigate snow-laden landscapes with ease, while their dense fur provides excellent insulation against cold temperatures.
Siberians Are Built For Jumping And Climbing
Siberians have a unique physical structure. Their back legs are longer than their front legs. This makes them excellent jumpers and climbers. We highly recommend placing cat trees and climbing posts around the house to keep your Siberian happy.
Siberians Are Highly Intelligent
Siberian cats are highly intelligent, making them excellent companions for those seeking a feline that loves to learn and explore. They have a natural curiosity, always eager to investigate their surroundings and discover new things. In addition, many Siberians can be trained to perform tricks, showcasing their remarkable intelligence.
Siberians Are Highly Social
Unlike many cats Siberians love to be around their people. They love to play, sit next to you on the couch, or sit on your desk while you work on the computer. In fact Siberian cats should not be left alone all day or they will get depressed and stressed. That is why Siberians tend to need a companion so they do not get lonely.
